Sample configuration 1 for Exchange 5.5 has the following characteristics:

Information Store with two databases, Directory Store with one database
Individual database restoration not required

Two LUNs are required for the two stores, because the two stores cannot share a LUN. A total of three LUNs are required for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.

Sample configuration 2 for Exchange 5.5 has the following characteristics:

Information Store with two databases, Directory Store with one database
Individual database restoration required for the private database in the Information Store

To support the individual restore requirement, the private database must have its own LUN. Because the public database and the Directory Store database cannot share a LUN, three LUNs are required just for the databases. A total of four LUNs are required for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.
