Developing your SnapManager data configuration plan

As you calculate the required sizes of the storage system volumes and LUNs required for your Exchange configuration, you need to record this information in one place; this composes your SnapManager data configuration plan. This information is used to create or upgrade your volumes and LUNs during the SnapManager configuration procedure.

The information you record in your SnapManager data configuration plan could also be invaluable if problems arise later with your Exchange system. Knowing the volume and drive for each of your LUNs can aid the diagnosis and resolution of many potential issues.

To create your SnapManager data configuration plan, complete the following steps.

1

For each LUN you need, record the following information:

  • Purpose
  • Size
  • Volume and qtree
  • Assigned drive letter or mount point

For details about calculating LUN size for an Exchange database, see the following topics:

For details about calculating LUN size for transaction log files and the SnapInfo directory or directories, see Calculating LUN size for transaction logs and SnapInfo directory

  • Type (traditional or flexible)
  • Fractional reserve (%)
