This topic contains sample configurations that illustrate possible ways to satisfy the configuration rules for SnapManager 3.2 for Exchange:
For more information about SnapManager for Exchange data store configuration, see the SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange Best Practices Guide.
Note
The LUN numbers are for illustration only; they do not correspond to any configuration setting on your host system. In addition, your configuration will vary based on your sizing and capability requirements.
This example configuration has the following characteristics:
Because this Exchange server has only one storage group, only one LUN is required for the databases. A total of two LUNs are required for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.
This example configuration has the following characteristics:
Because the ability to restore either of the databases individually is required, each database must be placed on its own LUN. Therefore, three LUNs are required for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.
This example configuration has the following characteristics:
Four LUNs are required for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.
This example configuration has the following characteristics:
With this configuration, database C in storage group 1 can be restored without restoring any of the other databases in its storage group. However, databases A and B have to be restored at the same time. A total of five LUNs are used for this configuration, as shown in the following diagram.
Note
Configuring many databases on their own LUNs for individual restoration can cause you to run out of drive letters.
For more information about drive letter limitations, see Drive letter limitations and individual database restoration.
