Chapter 5
For SnapManager backup and restore to function, the Exchange data store must be located properly on one or more LUNs, and those LUNs need to be sized appropriately. The ability to restore individual databases imposes additional data configuration requirements.
This section contains background information about Exchange, SnapManager, and SnapManager support for NTFS volume mount points. This information enables you to plan your SnapManager Exchange data store LUN and storage system volume requirements, based on your space and functionality requirements. The following topics are covered:
Note
For faster backups and restores, use the minimum number of LUNs required for your business and service level commitments. Unless individual database restoration is a requirement in your environment, group your databases together.
After you determine how many LUNs you need for your SnapManager configuration and what data those LUNs will hold, proceed to Chapter 6, Creating Storage System Volumes and LUNs to calculate required sizes for those LUNs as well as the sizes of the volumes that contain those LUNs.
