Backup and recovery using volume mount point
The following topics are covered:
Perform backup and recovery using volume mount point
To perform backup and recovery using volume mount points, complete the following tasks:
- Migrate all database files to a volume mount point. For more information
about database migration, see the Chapter 7, Using the SnapManager
Configuration Wizard.
- Create a backup of all the databases residing on volume mount point. For
more information about SQL database backup, see the chapter Chapter 9,
Backing Up Databases Using SnapManager.
Note
In SQL Server, the backup transaction logs backups and dump files are saved to a SnapInfo directory residing on a volume mount point or a drive letter.
- Restore Snapshot copies residing on a mounted volume. For more
information about the restore operation, Chapter 10, Restoring Databases
Using SnapManager.
Change backup management group with mounted volume
To change the backup data set management group that resides on a mounted volume, complete the following tasks:
- Use Configuration Wizard to configure databases on the mount point.
- Use Backup Wizard to make backups of the databases on the mounted
volume.
- Go to the Backup and verification tab and change the backup dataset
management group. SnapManager must rename the Snapshot copies
mounted on a mount point appropriately.
Delete backup data set on mounted volume
To delete the backup dataset that resides on mounted volume, complete the following the following tasks:
- Use Configuration Wizard to configure databases on the mount point.
- Use Backup Wizard to make backups of several databases on the mounted
volume.
- Go to the Delete Backup tab and delete the databases. SnapManager should
be able to delete Snapshot copies and backup metadata that resides on the
mounted volume.
