A remote reference formula allows Excel to reference Cascade DataHub data points using the syntax:

This is not the recommended method of linking data server data into an Excel spreadsheet. The speed of updates will be much slower using this method when compared with using the simple cell naming technique described above. The Allow Advise check-box in the Program Launch Options of the Setup window must be selected for Cascade Connect to work with remote referencing, since it involves Excel setting up DDE ADVISE loops with Cascade Connect.
