The common theme running through all of these connectivity scenarios appears to be TCP/IP. Once the TCP/IP communication protocol is established, all of the other technologies using it can operate simultaneously on a network, and can share that network with other networking systems such as Novell NetWare and NetBIOS. A complete QNX to MS-Windows connectivity solution could consist of:
SMBFsys and Samba for bi-directional file and peripheral sharing.
Phindows for a graphical view of the QNX system.
Cascade Connect for real-time data transfer.
Custom cross-platform programming can be accomplished with low-level TCP/IP programs on both the QNX and MS-Windows computers. Given the complementary nature and completeness of the SMBFsys/Phindows/Cascade Connect combination, custom network programming can be almost entirely eliminated.
